G, A and B
The first note we are going to learn is G. G is the easiest note to play on the recorder as it has the most comfortable and natural hand position.
To play G cover the first 3 holes with the following fingers from your Left Hand:
1 - Left Index Finger
2 - Left Middle Finger
3 - Left Ring Finger
Your Left thumb covers the back Thumb Hole.
Your right hand will be supporting the rest of the recorder gently by resting it on your right thumb.
Once your fingers are in place bring the recorder mouthpiece to your lips and blow gently into your instrument. Remember if you blow too hard and fast your recorder will squeak and wont play the note. Also make sure that your fingers cover the entire hole other wise you will get the wrong note or a squeak!

The next note we are going to learn to play is A. To play A all we need to do is lift your Left Ring Finger up from your G fingering (see above) so that only the first 2 holes and the Thumb hole are covered.
Your Right Hand is still supporting the recorder.
To play A once again gently blow air through the mouthpiece. Make sure that your fingers cover the entire hole other wise you will get the wrong note or a squeak!

B is the last note we are going to learn on this page. The B position follows on from the G and A.
To play B all you have to do is lift your Left Middle Finger up from your A fingering (see above) so that only the first hole and the Thumb Holes are covered. Make sure that your fingers which are not on any holes are relaxed and can easily jump back to the recorder when you need to change note.
Your Right Hand should still be supporting the recorder.
Once your fingers are in position and you feel ready gently blow air into the mouthpiece to play B. Remember that if you blow too hard or fast that your note will become all squeaky. Also make sure that your fingers cover the entire hole other wise you will get the wrong note or a squeak!
