Song Tutorials
In the Tutorial pages you will find links to YouTube Tutorials that people have created for a range of different songs. Some of these Tutorials will be made Public so that you can access them at any time you like. Some Tutorials will be hidden and will require a password or a QR code for you to access them.
Tutorials have been ranked in level of difficulty to play from Easy, Intermediate and Advance.
Easy Tutorials only require you to use very basic recorder skills and have a small number (such as 3 or 4) of notes to play.
Intermediate Tutorials are a bit trickier and may have tricky rhythms or 5 plus notes to play.
Advanced Tutorials are songs that require a high level of skill with tricky rhythms, a large range of notes and possibly notes that we have not learnt in class.
You must learn how to play at least 2 of these songs from each difficulty and perform them to Mr. A and/or the class in order to move up to the next level (i.e. learn 2 songs from the Easy Level to move up to play songs in the Intermediate Level).
There will also be a set of 'Hidden Tutorials', 'Tasks' and 'Mini Quests' that you can only also complete. To complete one of the Hidden Tutorials, Tasks or Mini Quests you must speak to Mr. A who will then give you a QR Code that will allow you to access the hidden pages.
You will be marked on how well you can play these songs in class. If you are feeling extra clever you can also record yourself playing the songs and email them to Mr. A for him to mark you like that. To help you keep track of how you are going, and to help when it comes to group playing and picking leaders you will be given special 'Recorder Karate Belts'. Recorder Karate Belts work the same way as normal Karate Belts. Each colour of a Karate Belt means you have learnt, gained and shown certain skills, strength and knowledge. There are 9 different Recorder Karate Belts to achieve. They are:
WHITE
YELLOW
ORANGE
GREEN
PURPLE
BLUE
RED
BROWN
BLACK
Each time you complete a Task and can prove that you have learnt and developed a new Recorder skill you will be assessed and then possibly be given the next colour belt. Everyone will start on White Belt. Black Belt is the highest Colour you can get. Higher Colour Belt holders will be called upon to be leaders and student teachers in the class.
Challenge yourself with these tutorials and aim to get up to Black Belt. Learn the songs and perform them in class or record them yourself to show people later on. Maybe teach the song to a group of friends and come up with your own arrangement of the song. If someone is having trouble learning a song from a tutorial why not sit down with them and help them learn it. For a real challenge see if you can make your OWN Recorder Tutorial for one of your favourite songs and then give it to Mr. A so he can post it up here.
