Below is a List of Words that have been used in this website and their meanings. The words here are words that Musicians use to describe or explain something. Try and learn these words and their meanings and then try to use them in musical discussions in the classroom.
Fingering - The term used to describe the positions of the instrumentalists hands and finger placement on an instrument.
Flat - A note that is a semitone lower than its 'pure note' tone. In musical writing a flat is indicate with this symbol ( b ). Can also be used to describe the sound of a note tone or an instrument that isn't in tune properly. Instrumentalist - A person who plays an Instrument Octave - 8 notes away from the starting note. It is the same note tone but at a higher or lower pitch. I.e. High C' is 8 notes above Low C (C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C'). Pitch - How High or Low a note sounds. Semitone - A half-step in music. Used to measure distance between notes. Tone - The note sound produced by the instrument. |
