Questions
Below are some of the questions people have been asking me about playing the recorder. If you have a question about recorder playing look here first to see if someone has asked the question already and if it has been answered.
If no one has asked your question then please feel free to ask me it and I will add it to the questions page with an answer.

How do you play a song using the notes all together?
To play a song using a range/lots of different notes all you need to do is change your fingering to finger different notes whilst you blow air through your recorder. You can also do a thing called 'Tonguing' where you can stop and start the airflow into your recorder with your tongue. This then lets you play faster and more complicated rhythms. We will practice Tonguing in class.
How do you take a deep breath so quickly to do the next note and why does sometimes when you blow all you get is air coming out and no sound?
To take a breath before you play your next note all you have to do is breath through your mouth by relaxing your lips and sucking air in. You keep the recorder in your mouth and you breath the air in from both ends of your mouth (if you are still unsure ask me in class and I can show you). You don't need to take a deep breath, sometimes taking deeper breaths is bad for you as you have more air to get rid of.
Now to the part with blowing and only air coming out there are a few reasons as to why:
1- You are blowing TOO HARD and the air isn't getting a chance to vibrate properly in the instrument. This can sometimes cause the instrument to squeak.
2 - You are blowing TOO SOFTLY. If you blow too softly you aren't pushing enough air through the instrument and there is no air to vibrate around. You should be blowing air as if you are blowing on a candle flame to make it flicker but you don't want it to blow out.
3 - Your fingers aren't covering the holes properly.
9 times out of 10 the reason your recorder isn't making a noise is because you are doing something wrong and will just need to change one little thing.

Can you please put up some more songs because I've learnt them all and would like to try some more!
SURE THING!
Firstly, Congratulations on learning all the songs so far! Have you come and played them in class yet? Maybe we can try and do that next lesson.
Have you taught the songs to anyone else? Give that a shot.
Now for the NEW SONGS - make sure that you check out the other tutorial pages (intermediate and advance) because there are tutorials up on there as well. Remember these ones will be much trickier than the easy tutorials.
You might also like to search for your own tutorials online by typing in Recorder Tutorials, or you might even like to try and figure out how to play one of your favourite songs!
Happy playing!
